Classics of Hungarian and
world literature are also present in the review with their
original works and in translations, essays, critical studies
and various documents.
Every year, thematic issues
draw new authors into the review's literary workshop.
Each of these issues deals with a certain topic like dreams,
books, the city, the prison; there was an issue with the
title Byzantinism and the Russian Orthodox religion and
another debating the problem of writing the history of
contemporary Transylvanian literature. Closely related
to thematic issues are those presenting other literary
reviews like Élet és Irodalom, Holmi, Irodalmi Újság,
Magyar Lettre, Nappali Ház and Pompeji. The most recent
undertaking is presenting the literature of some metropolises
of the world: Berlinlátó was the first, followed by Bécslátó
edited by Deréky Pál, Vienna. (The title of the review,
Látó is Visionary in English).
Látó frequently organizes
literary matinées, presenting authors as well as literary
societies and other reviews.
Látó is funded partly by
the Romanian Writers' Guild and the Maros County Council,
but, like all other publications, mostly lives on other
sources of help. It has twice been honoured with the Hungarian
Free Press Foundation's Award and boasts the exclusive
Zuboly Award of Centrál Café, Budapest. |
